The Mountune turbocharger bypass (aka diverter or recirculating) valve was produced as there is a limitation to the original valve. The original valve has a rubber diaphragm which may no longer work effectively when the pressure differential across the turbocharger compressor housing increased above its maximum design requirement. This would lead to the valve opening when not required which in turn increased turbocharger shaft speed above acceptable limits. If not fixed turbocharger damage would have occurred.
Mountune designed and engineered the valve to act as a direct replacement with a metal piston and rubber sealing system that removed the original diaphragm design completely. The new design also features a stronger spring to provide the needed increase seating strength which is needed to maintain its position when the pressure differential across the turbocharger compressor housing increases above the original valve design threshold. The valve is also rebuildable if needed, and can be cleaned as well, unlike the original design.
A welcome benefit to the new design is a change in the "dump" noise which is generated by the valve on tip out/throttle lifts.
